El apellido CORCORAN deriva de la palabra corcair, que significa rubicundo. Descendientes de Milesio por su hijo Heber, el clan MacCorcoran tuvo alguna importancia en el distrito de los Ely O´Carroll y eran gente de pro en Co.Offaly y en Co.Tipperary a fines del siglo XVI. O´Hart da su pedigree señalando que su origen viene de Amruadh, no. 94 en el pedigree de los Ely O´Carroll.
The name Corcoran in Ireland is derived from either of two distinct native Gaelic Septs. The first was the O'Corcrain Sept based in County Fermanagh in the North of the country. The second was the MacCorcrain Sept located in County Offaly. Corcoran was also used as a variant of Corkery, especially in County Kerry.
Origen: Irlandés. The name Corcoran comes from the Gaelic Mac Corcrain or O Corcrain, both of which are derived from the word "corcair," which now means purple, but originally meant ruddy. First found in county Fermanagh where they held a family seat from very ancient times.
