McCall / MacCall / MacColl

The name McCall in Ireland is often of immigrant origin having been brought to the country by settlers from Scotland, especially during the seventeenth century. It is also derived from the native Gaelic Mac Cathmhaoil Sept of Counties Tyrone and Armagh. The Sept name is taken from a Gaelic word meaning 'battle chief'.
