Davis / Davies
The name Davis or Davies in Ireland is often of Welsh origin having been brought to the country by settlers who located in all four Provinces but especially in Leinster and Ulster. Several native Gaelic Septs have used Davis as the anglicized version of their name including the McMurroughs of County Wexford and the MacDaibhaids in Ulster.
Spelling variations include: Davies, Davis, Divis and others.
First found in Flint, where the Davies family was seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D.
