The Irish name Doolin is derived from the native Gaelic O'Dobhailen Sept who were located in Counties Roscommon and Galway. The name is now quite widespread, especially in the Province of Connaught with variants including O'Doelan and even Devlin. First found in Leinster where they are believed to be descended from Eochaidh, King of Leinster, and became one of the "Seven septs of Leix.
