Gilmore / Gilmour

The name Gilmore in Ireland is derived from either of two Gaelic Septs, Mac Giolla Mhuire or Mac Giolla Mhir. The name is commonest in Ulster and in County Sligo, where the Septs were based and it is here that the majority of descendants can still be found.
