The Irish name Gleeson is derived from the native Gaelic O'Glasain and the O'Gliasain Septs who were located the Province of Munster and especially in Counties Tipperary and Kerry. It is in these Counties that the majority of descendants can still be found. The variant Glissane is sometimes used in County Kerry.
