NOTAS DE FAMILIA
  1. I'm visiting Argentina for a few days and am trying to see if I can trace some family connections. My mother's great-grandmother was a Mary Ham (maiden name) who came to Buenos Aires (probably the Provincia) around 1862, after the death of her husband Edward Farrell in New York. She had two children with her, John Farrell (my mother's grandfather) (born 1855 NY) and Patrick Farrell (her granduncle) (born 1857 NY) and went to stay with her brother, a Ham (we don't know his first name). She died in 1869 in Buenos Aires and her brother's family took care of her sons. In 1872 John Farrell returned to Ireland because he inherited a family estate there, but we don't know anything more about Patrick. Do you know if Edward Ham (born in 1800) could have had a brother with children who also went to Argentina. We would very much like to be able to connect with Mary Ham's brother's family, to find someone who might know something about this connection. Do you have any ideas about how we could approach this? I'm going to the Southern Cross office to see if I can consult Eduardo Coghlan's book on the Irish in Argentina. Very best wishes, any information you have will be gratefully received.
