Patterson / Paterson
The name Patterson in Ireland is often of Anglo origin, having been brought to Ulster by settlers in the seventeenth century. It is also derived from the native Connaught based Gaelic Mac Paidin and O'Casain Septs, that are more usually anglicized as MacPadden and Cussane respectively.
