El apellido SHERIDAN en Irlanda deriva del gaélico O'Sirideain (es decir, descendientes de Siridean). El prefijo O' fue totalmente abandonado a partir del siglo XVII. Este clan se encontraba localizado en Co.Longford (donde tenía el patronato de la iglesia de Granard) y más tarde también en Co.Cavan, en el que se hicieron seguidores de la poderosa familia de los O'Reilly. The Irish surname Sheridan originated in Granard, Co. Longford, where the family were 'Erenagh ' of Granard that is herlditary lay lords of the Church. This eshaulted position gave the family all the rights and favours granted to Church leaders at the time. The name was first recorded in Granard in the 8th century. From Granard the Sheridans spread throughout Ireland and indeed the world.
